followed by another symbol, click on a symbol below.

Most escape sequences defind here come from the ISO 2022 standard that is also available as ECMA-35.
A sequence starts with the Escape control is followed by zero or more intermediate symbols (those in the first row in the chart above) and is terminated by a final symbol (those in rows two to six). The finals from row two (digits and some puncutation) are intended for private use and are not standardized. Most other combinations have some predefined meaning. Clicking on a specific symbol above will lead to information about the meaning and perhaps a new chart when more symbols are to follow. In all charts symbols in regions with a red outline have no predefined meaning yet. Although some have but are not yet used in the standard as such. Code position 177 is never used.

Note: the standards have always all charts flipped with respect to the charts as I use them, i.e. their columns are my rows. I have flipped them to allow a full display also on lower resolution screens. Further the standards denote symbols by column number followed by row number, both in decimal. I have chosen for an octal notation (just because octal has my preference). And further, I will never indicate a symbol by column and row number, or the octal code, but always by a symbolic representation which is taken from the International Reference Version of ISO 646 which is based on ASCII. The differences are the replacement of the dollar symbol by the currency symbol and the replacement of the tilde by the overline.

Although I made an attempt to make these charts as faithful as possible differences with the standards can crop up. Of course in those cases the standards are correct and I am wrong.
