Recent Papers

I hold a tenure track senior researcher position at the Database group of the Dutch national research center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI).

The main part of my work focuses on designing  adaptive database architectures. So far all modern database architectures require a significant amount of set up effort, meaning you need to have plenty of time and workload knowledge to invest in preparing a database system before you can actually use it. As we continuously increase our ability to collect more and more data, this becomes a major bottleneck  for any modern application that deals with data, both in businesses and in sciences.

My work is towards creating auto tuning database kernels that remove all set-up and tuning steps; they autonomously and continuously adjust to the data and query workload.
