2010

  • Berlin (Germany) (7/02/2010 - 13/02/2010)

SYANCO project meeting in Berlin (7/02/2010 - 13/02/2010). For about a week we could observe the city from the 37th floor of the Park Inn hotel located near the TV tower in the center of the eastern Berlin. Here are some pictures from our conference room and a bus city tour organized to entertain us in between the talks. Sad historical events often result in nice stories, we heard many of them from our funny English speaking guide.

2009

  • Christmas in Nebraska (22/12/2009 - 29/12/2009)

Since my Belarusian ortodox family does not celebrate Western Christmas, every year I wonder how to spend an obligatory week of vacations they generously grant us here in the NL for a Christmas time. This year I was taken to America by a nice guy called Kris who already took me to some other lovely remote places all around the world. His big Canadian/American family was kind enough to host and feed me for 6 days in their cute house in Nebraska. As, despite all complications with transport, it turned to be a very happy holiday, here are some pictures. I have never received so many presents in a single day, and played so many card games in a single night.

  • Stockholm (Sweden) (22/11/2009 - 26/11/2009)

Stockholm is known as a modern green technological and expensive city. It was a bit surprising for me to discover that it is located on many islands and just to go to another district you need sometimes to cross a forest. Here are some pictures from my conference trip to Stockholm.

  • Thailand (Phuket) (26/10/2009 - 2/11/2009)

My birthday trip to Thailand. It was so beautiful, unfortunately my silly pictures fail to express it.

  • Barcelona (Spain) (19/09/2009 - 20/09/2009)

I am a bit scared to check my bank account now, but I really enjoyed this weekend in Spain.

  • Texel (04/08/2009 - 08/08/2009)

Texel is the largest Dutch island in the Wadden Sea. If you are lucky with weather, you can enjoy playing tennis on semi-empty sandy beaches, swimming in cold refreshing water, biking in hot dunes, watching and feeding seals, chatting with old Dutch ladies, observing German torists and photographing their children and dogs. There was something else... Ah, take a radio or a couple of Italians to make it less boring.

  • Alps (30/04/2009 - 4/05/2009)

If you live in mountains, they may not seem so gorgeous to you, but if you were born in a flat country, and live perhaps in the flatest in the world, vacations in Alps seem a paradise. On the way back, we passed through a nice city of Strasbourg. I apologise to everyone I frightened with my driving.

  • Bike trip and flower parade (Voorhout-Sassenheim-Lisse-Bennebroek-Heemstede-Harleem) (25/04/2009)

It always seems that something nice is happening somewhere else while we are here. For this reason I do not take many pictures of the place I live in, and even if I do, they do not seem interesting enough to bother about putting them online. A flower festival is another story. I think I heard about it many moons ago, before coming to the Netherlands.

  • Syria (20/03/2009-27/03/2009)

Yet another unexpectedly wonderful destination. One week spent in this country brought me an entire new world. I hardly believe that just a month before the trip I would have had problems to show Syria on the map. Aleppo, Dead Cities (Serjilla), Crusader Castle, Palmyra and Damascus - a very usual set of touristic attractions in this rather unusual place. Interesting, cheap, safe and hospitable, it is unfairly ignored by western travelers. Where else can you drive your motobyke among ancient ruines or get lost in an immense medieval castle?

  • Hawaii (07/03/2009-13/03/2009)

This is perhaps the most romantic of my conference trips. Take your american friends with you, they can be very helpful and funny!

2007

  • Mont Saint-Michel (22/08/2007 - 23/08/2007)

Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky tidal island in Normandy, France. It is located approximately one kilometer off the country's north coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches... You know about wikipedia, right? Read here>> the rest. I hope my pictures will convince you that it may be an interesting place to visit, although they are not as great as you can take. And don't forget to look at my comments as I spent some time on them.
