Summary of Action Points

1. Raphael to inform the TMC about the publishers for the book and to request some experience regarding what can be negociated (number of free copies, royalties, etc.)
2. CWI to provide the general structure for grouping the MPEG-7 related resources, see http://media.cwi.nl/mpeg7/wiki/index.php/Topics, by 27/05/2008
3. Raphael to provide the CWI contribution for the 5th Newsletter, by 31/05/2008
4. Raphael to see with INA whether it is possible to include more controlled vocabularies in the news demo, by 30/06/2008
5. CWI and QMUL to see whether the techniques used in WP5.4 regarding the unsupervised image clustering could be integrated in the News demo, by 30/06/2008
6. ALL partners to submit to Gael a technology transfert proposal (for the IAB), by 30/06/2008. IAB will then provide feedback such as: there is a market or not for this technology; We are aware of a number of companies working on this technology, etc.

1. WP1 - Administration, Management (QMUL)

• Review feedback: progress achieved is very good, integration, collaborative research and management excellent.
• Review recommendations: compare our own achievements with the outside world; come with more integrated demos for the ICT conference; have more technology transfer and industrial placements; find appropriate publishing house for the book.

2. WP2 - Integration Activities (GU)

• 16 PhD exchanges (need 2 more by M30 + 6 more by M36)
• 9 Researcher exchanges (need 8) and 43 scientists
• 18 contributions in the teaching repository (need 28, so 10 more) by M30. Consider including all the lectures from the 3rd Summer School.
• 3rd Summer School, SSMS. Venue = MAICH in Chania (Crete) with cheap accomodation for 100-150 students and 12 luxury houses for the lecturers. Encourage your students to attend!
• PhD Jamboree on 24th July 2008 in Paris (ENST). Gael will be the senior person overseeing the whole organisation

3. WP3 - Content-based multimedia analysis (JRS)

WP3.4 - Content description

• MPEG-7 library (API) available (Windows MSVC 71. and 8.0), http://mpeg-7.joanneum.at
• MPEG-7 repository: update of the Media wiki, we can now attach XML documents

4. WP4 - Knowledge extraction (ITI)

WP4.1 - Multimedia ontology

Work mainly on the redesign of the COMM API, re-implement from scratch for optimization reason.

5. WP5 - Semantic Multimedia (KU)

Review recommendation: "you should consider to present a coherent and integrated demo combining KAT, VAMP and the object segmentation at ICT 2008".

WP 5.3 - Semantic Multimedia

• Demonstration of the current system in the plenary session
• "Stable module for semantic-based techniques for multimodal access to multimedia" is a milestone due by M30. The 2nd review demonstrator will be delivered (need 1 page description)

WP 5.5 - KAT Multimedia Annotation Tool

• KAT APIs stable, review demo workflow functional
• Released under LGPL: http://launchpad.net/kat
• KAT-Core (plugin APIs, plugin mangement, messaging, preference, GUI handling)
• New plugins: Knowledge Assisted Analysis (KAA)?, Audio Annotation Tool?, Interactive Segmentation Tool?

6. WP6 - Framework for the integration of software tools (DCU)

• End of May: DCU to release search middleware final variant to partners
• August 8th: topics relased by NIST
• August 25th: evaluation starts in each site, testing the system of the two others

7. WP7 - Activities to Spread Excellence (DFKI)

• K-Space book: status update, 2 publishers contacted (Wiley and Springer) and strong preference for Wiley
• Newsletter: expected contributions from CWI concern "Standardisation Activities"
• SAMT 2008 conference: 2 special sessions so far (Image Analysis and Social Network) + a third one proposed: the K-Space demo special session co-chaired by Noel and Thierry. This will be just demo going with short papers
• SMART Nominations:

8. TMC Meeting

1. Project Progress:
   • Feedback from the review: More integration between the tools; More evaluation with the state of the art; More technology transfert
   • No particularly issues
2. External Management Issues: ICT Lyon; Proposal for an exhibit has been made together with RUSHES and MESH. Proposal for the networked session will be made regarding the SMaRT society.
3. UEP has joined STI2 (Dieter Fensel new baby) ... surprisingly using K-Space money for paying the membership
4. Change on the dates for the next K-Space meeting: TMC will be on Tuesday 23rd of September (instead of Wednesday)
