DISC 2004: The 18th Annual Conference on Distributed Computing
to be held at
Trippenhuis, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
October 4 (afternoon) - October 7, 2004
The 18th
Annual Conference on Distributed Computing (DISC 2004) will be
held
from Monday, October 4 (afternoon) through Thursday October 7, 2004. The technical
sessions will be held in the Trippenhuis,
(home
of the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences), a beautiful 17th
century building at a canal in the Amsterdam
city centre. Please check the DISC-2004
home page regularly for updates on conference details. The conference
will be co-located with the
- Sixth workshop on Geometric and Topological Methods in Concurrency and Distributed Computing (Registration included in DISC registration) on Monday October 4 (morning),
- EU Workshop on Secure Multiparty Protocols (Registration not included in DISC registration) on Thurday October 7 (partially joint day program with with DISC at the same venue) and Friday October 8 (with changed venue at CWI National Research Institute in Mathematics and Computer Science in Amsterdam). The program of Thursday, October 7, is jointly organized by DISC and the SMP workshop, and registration to either event includes the technical program of the whole day.
- Weather: At the DISC dates Amsterdam is in the fall season. The weather is fairly unpredictable: It can be rainy, but it can also be Indian summer weather. Be prepared.
- Safety: Generally speaking, Amsterdam is quite safe. However, Amsterdam is a small but cosmopolitan city, and has its share of pickpockets looking for tourists. Take care at the train station on Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam Central Station, the trains in between, and perhaps crowded trams in the city.
