DISC 2004 Accommodation

In everything that follows, `E' stands for `Euro' ;   click here  for conversion to other currencies.
Participants have to arrange accomodation themselves. Due to a tourist deficiency, the hotels in Amsterdam may come up with some good deals if you shop around on the web. Apart from this, CWI has made price arrangements with the hotels: NH Tropen, Rembrandt, BW Lancaster, BW Eden, Piet Hein, also mentioned below. Prices, phone numbers, and pictures, can be found here. Please mention you are with CWI to get the discount. We reserved blocks of rooms at the Block reservations extended to September 6, some rooms in Rembrandt and 25 doubles in NH Tropen. The rates may hold for additional dates. Please mention you are with CWI and the DISC 2004 Conference to get the rebate resulting in the quoted prices in booking your room.

To get a feeling for the location of the CWI reduction hotels: The conference venue Trippenhuis is at Kloveniersburgwal. From the hotels you can actually "walk" through the city map by following the directions in the left upper corner of the street/park clickable links below. Main routes are:

A: Mauritskade (NH Tropen Hotel) - Middenweg (Lancaster Hotel, Rembrandt Hotel) - Waterloo Plein (City Hall/Opera) - Kloveniersburgwal (Trippenhuis=Conference venue).

B: Amstel river (Eden Hotel) - Waterloo Plein (City Hall/Opera) - Kloveniersburgwal (Trippenhuis=Conference venue).

C: Vondel Park (Piet Hein Hotel) - Leidseplein - Leidsestraat - Muntplein - OZ Achterburgwal - Kloveniersburgwal (Trippenhuis=Conference venue).

The Rembrandt Hotel (small amount of rooms blocked) and Best Western Lancaster Hotel are on the near conference venue end of Plantage Middenlaan; and the NH Tropen Hotel (large amount of rooms blocked) is on the far end of Plantage Middenlaan. The Best Western Eden Hotel is on the Amstel river. All these hotels are within 10 minutes walk from the conference venue Trippenhuis at Kloveniersburgwal passing the Botanical Garden "Hortus Botanicus", except the NH Tropen Hotel that is located aside from Tropenmuseum at corner Middenlaan/Mauritskade at about 20-30 minutes walk along the Middenlaan Zoo and Botanical Garden "Hortus Botanicus" (or a couple of minutes by tram). The Hotel Piet Hein is close to Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum, and Vondelpark, in a quiet neighborhood, about 30/40 minutes walk (or 5 minutes by tram and 10 minutes walk) from the conference venue. In the clickable streets/parks above there is a map; click on the map and you see on a larger map where you are.

People who prefer to stay in the city centre (old town)--all hotels above are there more or less except possibly the NH Tropen which is slightly off--are advised to make hotel reservations as soon as
possible, since hotels usually tend to fill up many months in advance (the tourist deficiency mentioned is uncharacteristic and may change). For information about hotels, click here; or, maybe better, on the street/park clickable locations above which also show nearby hotels and let you walk over the map of Amsterdam's Center City.

Scenery near the Trippenhuis (Conference Venue); from left to right: Kloveniersburgwal (where the Trippenhuis is located) in winter, the `Waag' (very close to the Trippenhuis), the Zuiderkerk (around the corner) and the Trippenhuis itself.
