digital libraries, including MPEG/SemWeb interoperability.

Database supporting both low level (e.g. feature extraction)
and high level (e.g. semantic descriptions) indexing.
European projects
- AMICITIA project

Asset Management Integration of Cultural heritage In The
Interexchange between Archives . Broad European project
on access to digital archives. Project is finished, but
website still look as it was setup at the beginning. BBC en
Beeld en Geluid were among the partners.
- Diamant project

Digital Film Manipulation System . European project with
focus on digital film restoration. Filmmuseum was one of
the partners.

ECHO aims at
developing a Digital Library (DL) service for historical films
belonging to large national audiovisual archives. Focus on
multilingual en speech recognition. Beeld en Geluid/NAA en
Twente University (Franciska de Jong) were among the partners.

with metadata support. Forum des Images (FDI) is one of

Standardized (Multimedia) Metadata Schemata and Vocabularies

AAT
The Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) is Getty's
structured vocabulary of more than 125,000 terms, scope
notes, and other information for describing fine art,
architecture, decorative arts, archival materials, and
material culturee.

CDWA
Categories for the Description of Works of Art (CDWA) is a
product of the Art Information Task Force (AITF) and funded by
the J. Paul Getty Trust. "The Categories describe the content
of art databases by articulating a conceptual framework for
describing and accessing information about objects and
images. They identify vocabulary resources and descriptive
practices that will make information residing in diverse
systems both more compatible and more accessible.

Dublin Core
Dublin Core metadata provides card catalog-like definitions
for defining the properties of objects for Web-based resource
discovery systems. The Dublin Core Metadata Element Set is a
set of 15 descriptive semantic definitions. It represents a
core set of elements likely to be useful across a broad range
of vertical industries and disciplines of study.

CIDOC. The CIDOC
Conceptual Reference Model (CRM) provides definitions and a
formal structure for describing the implicit and explicit
concepts and relationships used in cultural heritage
documentation. Also an ISO standard and European project.

TGN
The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN) is a structured
vocabulary of more than 1,000,000 geographic names, including
vernacular and historical names, coordinates, and place types,
focusing on places important for the study of art and
architecture.

ULAN
The Union List of Artist Names (ULAN) is Getty's structured
vocabulary containing more than 220,000 names and biographical
and bibliographic information about artists and architects,
including a wealth of variant names, pseudonyms, and language
variants.
