The paper I presented is titled "Cooperative Use of MHEG-5 and HyTime". The presentation and paper were well received. At the conference I spoke with Cécile Roisin of the Opéra project at INRIA. Her lab has been doing work related to ours, and our labs have been in regular contact. I also spoke with Christine Vanoirbeek of the technical university of Lauzanne, Switzerland, who has been doing HyTime-related work and who has visited CWI. The audience and participants were from the French hypertext/media community, which is substantial (though perhaps linguistically isolated), from Italy, perhaps due to Franca Garzotto's involvement, and from South America, perhaps due to Daniel Schwabe's involvement. England and Germany (and of course the Netherlands) also had one or two representatives each. Esprit Info Day --------------- I attended "Esprit Info Day" in Brussels on Monday, September 29th, 1997. Here information was discussed and dispersed regarding the September 16th call for proposals. Spoke with a few people during breaks, including an aerospace representative. He interested in reusing engineering data and structure, but not for hypermedia so much as for CAD and VR walkthroughs. I attended the Information Access and Multimedia discussions and took notes and the statistics and details presented. I also have the material distributed, including software on disk for preparing and submitting the proposals, and a CD containing relevant information. The new Prosoma service (www.prosoma.lu) was presented. It provides access to a database of Esprit projects and the partners involved. Its purpose is to promote the business resulting from projects. Also presented was the Ideal Fit (www.idealfit.net) web site. This project provides data on potential partners. Its purpose is to help potential project members find appropriate partners. The proposals are due December 16th.
