It was held by the Open Hypermedia Systems working group, which has met regularly over the last several years. They have been developing architectures and protocols through which open hypermedia systems can collectively operate. The purpose of this working group was to collect information and insight from a variety of different viewpoints. In a working group meeting after the workshop, Uffe Will has made chair of the group, Hugh Davis was made editor, and Randall Trigg was made requirements document editor. The working group will meet next in September in Denmark to work on the OHS protocol. At the conference I met with Steven DeRose of Inso Corp. He shared some information on HyTime developments and of Inso industrial partners that are using HyTime. I also met with Filip Evenepoel of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, who is working on HyTime. He will be attending the HyTime workshop being held at CWI. The conference in general was interesting, informative, engaging, and lively. It had several papers dealing with issues of openness in hypertext/hypermedia. Its theme for this year was on incorporating the WWW into academic hypertext research, and some of the articles presented at the conference reflected this theme.
