Uit de Sloot bio

Uit de Sloot play punkrock in seventies tradition references to the Ramones and the Clash and such are evident without ignoring the musical developments since then. The lyrics are in dutch, so you will just have to believe them if they say that they range from the serious to the hilarious.

The Band started in 1995 when Maarten Luijendijk, guitar and vocals, Jack Jansen, bass and vocals, and Melle van der Boon, drums, teamed up. All three had been playing in punkbands for ages, although Melle categorically refuses to say which bands. Maarten has had some international success with the Amsterdam hardcore band No Pigs.

The bandname is a pun on the current dutch hype of using parts of proverbs as bandname, and comes from Oude koeien uit de sloot halen, meaning to reiterate things that are best forgotten. Quite fitting for a band that plays in a tradition of twenty years ago...

The band started by playing covers of songs from the Golden Age of punkrock and a few original songs, more for fun than anything else. This changed when Eric van Bellen left YAWP! to join Uit de Sloot as second guitarist. Since then they have written quite a few songs and play primarily original material, with a couple of covers added for good measure.

In April 1997 the band released a mini-CD with 6 songs. Besides numerous (mostly) positive reviews in dutch music papers, Maximum Rock'n'Roll reviewed the record in a whopping 3-line review, the last of which said "I think these guys are herberts" (they are dead wrong, but who cares). The record was even played a couple of times on the national radio. In good DIY tradition they started their own label, Ouwe Koeie Plate. Distribution is done by De Konkurrent (catalog number is OKPCD01). The band also features on the Vitaminepillen compilation album Groetjes uit Holland, and on Decade, a tribute to the dutch band Brezhnev. Recordings for a new CD are finished, but there are no firm plans for a release date yet.

Lyrics, pictures, contact info and even the complete CD in near-hifi-quality is available on the webpage http://www.cwi.nl/~jack/uds. Or you can use the good old telephone and call Jack, +31 20 6160335, or Maarten, +31 20 6238627. Or write, to:
