De Stijl represented one of the major "modern movements" of early twentieth century art, architecture and design in the 1920s. It was mainly organized and promoted by the Dutch painter, designer, writer and propagandist Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931), who was the founder and editor of the De Stijl magazine. One of the artists associated with this movement is Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). The design of this website imitates one of his paintings.
