Alas, alas. After 7 years of sterling and unstinting work (well, I never saw her stint anyway), Diane Darrow, SIGCHI's ACM liaison, has left us. There is an interview with her in this issue, so if you never met her, you can learn about what she has been doing this last seven years, and why she's been so important to us.
Thank you Diane for all you have done! We'll miss you! (I know she's reading this, because she can't let go of us completely. She replied to a message I sent to chi-announcements@acm.org, so she's even reading that still!).
Mike Atwood in the Chairs' Column relates that a search is on for a replacement for Diane, and that full details will be in the next Bulletin. Well, this column is the last thing written each issue, so I can steal the scoop from Mike and tell you that our new SIGCHI liaison is David Riederman. Welcome David! However, full details will be in the next issue.
The CHI 97 Proceedings, just like the previous 2 years, are going online. They are being put online in 4 phases: the proceedings proper, the extended abstracts, the late-breaking material, and the indexes. At the time of writing phase 2 is online. Click along to http://www.acm.org/sigchi/chi97/proceedings/ for full details.
Surprise, surprise, just like all issues since January 1996, this issue too is online, at http://www.acm.org/sigchi/bulletin. However, the Online Bulletin is a two year experiment to see if it is worth doing, and if you think it is, we need your feedback so that we know we're not wasting our time. Please drop us a line, or preferably fill in the online feedback form.
Hardly an issue seems to go by without the announcement of one or more new Bulletin editors. Well, that's because there hasn't been an issue in the last 18 months that hasn't had one or more new editors. And this issue is no exception. So welcome our two new Events editors, Mike Atyeo and Donald Day. They introduce themselves in the Events section. All information to appear in the Bulletin about events should be sent directly to them.
By the way, just as a reminder, since the recent SIGCHI email Big Bang, where we moved all addresses from Xerox to ACM, all positions on the Bulletin (and in the SIGCHI Executive Committee) have email aliases, so even if an editor changes, your missives will reach the right person. The events editors are reachable as CHI-Bulletin-Events@acm.org, the ACM Liaison is CHI-ACM-Liaison@acm.org (easy, or what?) and all the rest are on the page opposite, so I don't need to repeat them here.
Not being one to break with tradition, the next issue of the SIGCHI Bulletin is the annual CHI special issue, with news, reports, and loads of other stuff.
