Hayago Championship

The Tokyo Cup or Hayago Championship (早碁選手権戦) was a lightning go tournament played in 1968-2002. Afterwards it was merged with the Kakusei tournament (鶴聖戦) and got the name JAL Super Hayago (スーパー早碁).

The Hayago Championship is broadcast on TV on Sundays. It is a single knockout tournament. However, the 12th-18th editions used a best of three match in the final. Players were usually 8- and 9-dans. A companion tournament for 5- to 7-dans was called ShinEi.

Time allotted was 10 min + 30s/move (for editions 1-16), 5 min + 30s/move + 2 x 3min (for editions 17-33), 10s/move + 10 x 1min (for editions 34-35).
